Description:  An SP SD40 lends a bit of extra dynamic breaking effort on this westbound descending to Bakersfield. SP C-40-4 class caboose 1455 was built in 1961 by Pacific Car and Foundry; this SP caboose class was the prototype for the familiar Athearn blue box bay window caboose. Date of photo approximate.

Description:  Westbound SP manifest works upgrade through the Sullivan's Curve area, through the so-called Mormon Rocks. These are sandstones and conglomerates of the Cajon Valley Formation (Miocene) which have been tilted by tectonic activity associated with the San Andreas fault zone. SP 7375 was retired by UP 10/29/99. Date of photo approximate.
